This semester, my MMM goal for Leadership was to attend sessions that would challenge my perspective and help me grow both personally and professionally. I wanted to be more open to new ideas and reflect on how I can apply what I learn to my own leadership style. I stayed true to this goal by actively engaging in each session and thinking about how these lessons connect to my experiences in media, teamwork, and everyday leadership.

The first SLI I attended this semester was “Leadership Lessons from Bikini Bottom (Leading Self)”. It was a really engaging and unique session that used familiar characters to explore different leadership styles. The workshop helped me better understand how personality traits and habits can shape the way we lead and work with others. I appreciated how it encouraged self-reflection and made me think more about my own strengths and areas for growth, especially in group settings and leadership roles.

The second SLI I attended this semester was “Severe Weather (Leading Self)”. It was really informative and practical. The session helped me understand how to properly respond to different weather-related emergencies in the Northeast and why being prepared is so important. I appreciated how it focused on real-life situations and gave clear steps on what to do, which made me feel more confident in handling unexpected conditions and looking out for others.

The third SLI I attended this semester was “Diversity in the Arts: Rewriting Our Story (Leading in a Diverse World)”. It was an eye-opening and important session that explored the history of stereotypes and bias in film and theater. The discussion helped me better understand how these issues have shaped the industry and continue to impact representation today. I appreciated the opportunity to hear different perspectives and reflect on how I can be more aware and inclusive as I continue working in media.
