This semester, my MMM leadership development goal was to grow as a supportive and inclusive leader. I love attending SLI sessions; they opened my eyes to so many topics I never expected to learn about and helped me develop in ways I didn’t anticipate.
The first SLI I attended this semester was “I’ll Follow You Until You Love Me”: Stalking Awareness (Leading Self). It was eye-opening and incredibly important. The session helped me understand how serious and complex stalking behaviors can be, and how to recognize warning signs in different contexts. I appreciated how it focused on both awareness and ways to support others who may be affected. It definitely made me think more deeply about personal boundaries, safety, and the role we all play in creating a safer, more informed community.
The second SLI I attended was Reading Without Words (Leading Others), which focused on nonverbal communication. It was fascinating to explore how much we communicate through body language, facial expressions, and tone, often without realizing it. I learned how to be more mindful of the signals I’m sending and how to better read those around me. This session really helped me understand the power of presence and how to lead more effectively through intentional, nonverbal connection.
The third SLI I attended was Let’s Get Blunt About Cannabis (Leading Self). It was an honest and informative session that gave me a clearer understanding of how cannabis use can affect different aspects of health and decision-making. I appreciated the non-judgmental approach and the focus on making informed, responsible choices. It encouraged self-awareness and opened up space for meaningful conversations around substance use and wellness.
